Bird Unknown

I am no Bird/Wildlife photographer and very rarely I come across birds that are in shootable distance for the lenses I use. This is one of those very rare times.

I don't know what bird this is. We found it on my friend's farm in Mysore, when we had camped there for the Mysore Dasara. After a lot of hide and seek with this cute little bird, it finally posed for a few pictures. Hope you like it.

Mysore in the Palace

The Entire city of Mysore showed up at the Palace,on the last day of Dasara.

The traffic jams were much worse than Bangalore(yes, that's right) and with thousands of vistors crossing the roads all the time,it was just not the ideal scene for smooth traffic trails.

This shot shows the slow moving traffic on one side and the stationary traffic on the other side.

The Rhythm

This group of kids were one of the pagents in the Dasara procession.

The dance was beautiful with perfect rhythm and grace and it was great pleasure to watch.

The music was just awesome and was played by the kids of the same age group, and the dance perfectly complemented the music.

I enjoyed the dance and the music and i hope you enjoy it in the picture.

The Rocking Palace

This is my second shot of the Mysore Palace, shot on the eve of the Dasara procession.

The crowd at the palace was huge and the place was bustling with activity. The Entire palace campus was lit; live concerts were on, street vendors doing very brisk business, kids playing in the lawns, the atmosphere was just great.

I have tried to portray the majesty of the palace, the bustling activity at the place and also give a feel of the festival, in the picture.

This shot was captured by rotating the zoom, during a slow shutter capture.

I had setup the camera in the middle of the walkway between the entrance and the palace and the entire crowd was passing through by my sides.

A Few cops came over and wanted to know from which TV channel I was from, a few people wanting to take some pictures of them in front of the palace, in their cameras, some boys and girls just to say a hi and starting off a conversation, curious to know where I am from, some people wanting to know if I would take their pictures and some actually decided themselves, that I take those instant pictures of people during carnivals and sell it to them..

Guy : Pappu beta ethar kade ho jov,
Radha thum ethar kado
Mannu beta tum mummy ke pas aajovo..

I silently watch him, arranging his family in front of the camera, he then comes over to me and asks

Guy: How much is one photo.
Me: 1000/- Rs sir.
Guy: what !!!!
Me: Yes sir, it is Rs 1000/-

He gives me a weird look and moves on with his folks..

The sheer enthusiasm and warmth in the people I saw and met at the palace, were very memorable moments and made me enjoy the day and this picture.

Hope you like the picture.

Mysore Dasara 2006

The Royal Splendor

Dasara at Mysore is a Royal Festival Celebrating victory of Truth over Evil.Legend has it that the Goddess Chamundeeswari or Durga slew the demon Mahishasuran on Vijayadashami day. Dasara is a 10-day festival in the region culminating on Vijayadashami or tenth day.

The Entire city of Mysore comes alive and people from all over the world come to Mysore to watch the Dasara proceedings and the Dasara procession which ends the Dasara celebrations.

Me and Nara had been to Mysore to enjoy the Dasara festival and also shoot the proceedings. The whole city was upbeat, festivity was in the air and excitement all over the place.
It was just awesome to be there and feel the festival.

This is a panaromic shot of the Grandly lit Mysore palace, where most of the celebrations took place.

I begin to post the Dasara pictures and i hope to post a few more in the next week. Enjoy.

I will be posting 4 to 5 pictures from this trip starting today.

Golden Drama

I got a chance to make a quick one day trip to Gokarna last saturday. The trip was supposed to be for three days and ended up being a 1 day trip because of Annavru death and the bandh that day at Bangalore and the unavailability of return tickets during the weekends.

Gokarna is the coastal tip of Karantaka and is approx 120kms from Goa.The place is a small town and is full of pristine beaches.I got a chance to spend only 10hrs at Gokarna and it definitely felt like more than that.

This picture was taken at Om beach during sunset.

Simple beautiful things around us

Sometimes we become so busy running behind material pursuits, that we dont spend a moment to appreciate the simple beautiful things around us all the time, like the patterns in clouds, the chirping of birds or the children playing around or even the beautiful patterns in the plants that are around us all the time.

This one is a Coconut leaf seen from my window.

First post of 2006. Light painting ..well literally

Wish you a very happy 2006.I know it's very late to wish a happy new year, but better late than never.

It has been one year since i started blogging and it has also been one year since i started doing photography.

2005 has been a wonderful year with a few firsts on various fronts.Photography is one of them. When i started out in Jan 2005, my interest in photography has been only landscapes.Nature and outdoor has been my love and landscapes have always inspired me. During this one year,my interests have evolved and now i like shoot all styles of photography.I have started to believe that photographs are everywhere,we just need to see them.

I have been holding all posts this year because i wanted this picture to be the first post for 2006.I finally got a chance to shoot it and here we go.

This Picture is a light painting. This was shot at home. What you see is a black chart pasted on the the wall. The border and the letters are painted with light on the black chart. The border was done by moving a bed lamp around the chart and the writings are done with a red laser pointer.

Tech details: f/8,2mins.
Have a great 2006.Happy new year.
